Quartet asks Israel to stop settlement activity

ROME, June 27 (Xinhua) --


On the sidelines of the Group of Eight foreign ministers' summit, the Middle East Quartet on Saturday asked Israel to freeze all its settlement activity and expressed hope for the early resumption of negotiations between Israelis and Palestinians.

The Quartet, which comprises the United States, Russia, the European Union and the United Nations, urged the government of Israel to stop expanding all settlements, including those so-called "natural growth."
