US economic recovery 'can't work': Peter Schiff

Peter Schiff, the president and chief global strategist for Euro Capital Management, is a star of sorts on YouTube, especially among the contrarians and gold bugs.

One popular video clip, entitled Peter Schiff Was Right (2nd edition), includes an August 2006 appearance on CNBC, in which Mr. Schiff’s dire economic outlook was ridiculed by Art Laffer, a key economic advisor to former U.S. president Ronald Reagan.

“The U.S. economy has never been in better shape,” said an incredulous Mr. Laffer, in response to Mr. Schiff’s prediction that Americans’ home equity was destined to evaporate, the U.S. consumer was set to embark on a long hibernation and a deep, long recession was near.

“I think Peter is totally off base. I don’t know where he’s getting his stuff,” Mr. Laffer told the CNBC host.

It is now clear Mr. Schiff saw what others ignored.

... Mr. Schiff is among those who believe the worst is yet to come for the U.S. economy. This bleak group argues that all the U.S. policymakers have done with the trillions in stimulus -- through the expansion of the Fed’s balance sheet to spending on construction projects and schemes like cash-for-clunkers -- is delay the day of reckoning by a year or two.

...Mr. Schiff ...says policymakers are attempting to maintain the status quo, whereas what’s needed is a recession that separates the weak from the strong, and forces households to scale back their debt-induced lifestyles.

“What’s the new lease on life? Flood the world with cash,” Mr. Schiff says. “And the result once all this money is spent? We are in a deeper hole than we were before.”...

This massive amount of debt is destined to become the albatross around America’s neck, naysayers warn. What appears to be a recovery in the making is nothing more than a temporary replenishment of inventories after they were drawn down drastically following the events of a year ago.

The Fed has played down the risk of inflation. Others say this is nonsense, given the amount of liquidity policymakers have made available that is bound to chase goods.

“The Fed succeeded in the process of stopping price deflation. But the side effect is to unleash inflation that will be very difficult for it to stop,” says Eric Janszen, founder and president of iTulip Inc., an economic forecaster and consultancy...

“Everyone is trying to recreate the past, but it won’t work,” Mr. Janszen warns. “All these efforts to maintain the status quo will lead to worse crises. We are going to have to take a hit to our standard of living for a period of time. That epiphany will occur.”

This is because we tried to fix our debt problems by CREATING MORE DEBT (or better yet, selling out to the New World Order Globalist Bankers).

...The US is hiding financial insolvency (...) and we are going to get wash after wash of crisis, until we cannot even honor the treasury bills (this has already happened .. China just vacated)!!

While some evangelical leaders and politicians are urging Christians to commemorate the Islamic holiday of Ramadan, one pastor is calling on believers to join with Jews around the world next Friday in observing Rosh Hoshana – or the Feast of Trumpets.

Mark Biltz, who specializes in teaching the Hebrew roots of Christianity, says the biblical feasts in the fall and spring calendar are not just, as commonly believed, "Jewish holidays."

"These are not Jewish holidays, they are the Lord's holidays," explains Biltz, who has recorded teaching videos, "The Feasts of the Lord," for WND...

"The Feasts of the Lord" have special meaning and significance for all believers in the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, says Biltz. They were commemorated by Jesus and His apostles – and continued to be observed by Jesus' followers in the first century even after His death and Resurrection. They also have special meaning with respect to the life, death, resurrection and return of Jesus, he points out.

There's still time to learn these important lessons before the fall feasts are past.

Rosh Hashana begins Friday night, Sept. 18 this year. It is followed by Yom Kippur, or the Day of Atonement, Sept. 27.

'Gay' man sues Bible publisher for 'mental anguish'

A homosexual man is suing a third national Bible publisher for "mental anguish" after he says the company published Bibles with a negative connotation toward homosexuals.

Bradley LaShawn Fowler of Canton, Mich., alleges William Tyndale Publishing manipulated Scripture when it published Tyndale’s New Living Translation Holy Bible and the New Life Application Study Bible by using the term "homosexuals" in a New Testament passage, 1 Corinthians 6:9.

"One Bible dictates homosexuals will not inherit the Kingdom of God, while the other is completely void on the issue altogether," Fowler wrote in a statement on his blog.

I’ve caught some heat since Election Night when I made my first reference to the person whom I expected would turn out to be our first Punk President.

...concern that the most powerful elected office in the world was about to be occupied by, at the very minimum, a “a young, inexperienced person” who lacks major elements of maturity one would expect in someone about to take on such a serious responsibility...

Evidence abounded during the campaign that trouble was brewing. There was the “subtle” bird-flipping of opponents — twice. There were allusions to inflicting violence on rivals. There was gaffe after gaffe after gaffe, dutifully minimized by the lapdog media establishment. There were false narratives, ranging from self-aggrandizement to whitewashing family history to (despite a big set of ears and his thin-skinned sensitivity about them) completely implausible denials about having heard objectively racist, America-hating rhetoric from a pastor of almost 20 years. The tissue-thin resume, in combination with even a small sample of the items just described, should have been enough to disturb any objective observer concerned that we were about to elect the lightest of lightweights. And we did.

Obama’s ignorance and inexperience have been quite evident since Inauguration Day — in fact, even on Inauguration Day...

...with this administration and its leader, the dictionary’s alternative definition of “punk” (”a young ruffian; hoodlum”) has been operative for quite a while.

Michael Barone, who may have been the first to describe the Obama administration as a “Gangster Government,” recognized it early on. In May, after seeing what the Obama administration was in the midst of doing to Chrysler’s first-lien, secured creditors, Barone wrote the following:

• ….. We have just seen an episode of Gangster Government. It is likely to be part of a continuing series.

Sadly, that is exactly what has followed. Obama’s car czars also ran roughshod over the contractual rights in bankruptcy of GM’s unsecured bondholders to the direct benefit of the United Auto Workers Union’s VEBA. More recently, the administration-favored health care bill as voted out of committee by the House has a $10 billion (at least) promise to shore up the benefit plans of predominantly unionized employers.

Elsewhere, the Obama administration is funding oil drilling off the coast of Brazil while doing everything it can to stifle domestic exploration and drilling. It browbeats corporate executives for taking bonuses it and Congress previously allowed, while bonuses to government employees proceed merrily along. It seemingly treats anyone who would disturb its budding empire as an enemy and not merely an opponent. Its closely-tied affiliate Organizing For America sends thugs and astroturfers to town hall meetings to crowd out others, intimidate dissenters, and worse.

It’s clear that our Punk President and his gangster government are bent on deciding, on their own and in as many areas as possible, who gets rewarded and who gets punished.

Whatever you want to call it, this behavior is not characteristic of a representative government.

What is required to combat this group of thugs is an army of Eliot Nesses. Though that army may be forming in the nascent Tea Party movement, it will have to be about a lot more than periodic demonstrations.

Gangsters play for keeps.

The July 31, 2009 national income accounts "confirmed that the US economy is in its worst economic contraction since the first downleg of the Great Depression, which was a double-dip" one like today's.

Intermittent upturns are common, like from spiked auto sales from the cash-for-clunkers program that borrowed future purchases for today's. "Yet, this downturn will continue to deteriorate, proving to be extremely protracted, extremely deep and particularly nonresponsive to traditional stimuli."

The economy suffers from deep structural problems related to household income. Consumers are over-indebted, can't borrow, and Washington's policies aren't helping them. Continued economic decline will follow...

President Obama seemingly has no clue about what he is doing, and, increasingly, it shows.

Bill Clinton was a masterful campaigner... Ronald Reagan... could give "The Speech" a thousand times and each time it was electrifying. The word "charisma" entered our popular political language to describe John Kennedy,. . Franklin Roosevelt had the same gift for making people feeling comfortable and winning elections.

But there is a huge difference between Obama, on the one hand, those other presidents on the other hand - and the difference transcends ideology. FDR, Clinton, and Obama had the same Leftist agenda. JFK was what today would be called a moderate, and the Gipper, of course, was overtly conservative. But JFK, FDR, Ronald Reagan, and Bill Clinton had the ability to govern once they had won their elections.

FDR, by the time he became president, he had served as... Franklin Roosevelt understood governance.

John Kennedy had been a war hero...,

Ronald Reagan,... served eight years as Governor of California and...

Even Bill Clinton had been a congressional candidate, then attorney general of Arkansas, then for many years governor of Arkansas before he ran for president. Clinton served a term as Chair of the National Governors Association. He was a leading member of the Democratic Leadership Council, a group considered, wrongly, to be moderate but which was influential.

Obama, while possessing many of the campaigning gifts of these presidents, has shown no ability to govern at all. This is a very dangerous situation for our nation. Our leader is a man whose ignorance, in many areas of history and policy, is simply appalling. He is rather like the "President in the Plastic Bubble." Some of the first acts of the new presidential administration make it clear that there has been a dramatic change in the way that traditional religious faith is going to be handled at the White House. For example, when the new White House website went public immediately following the inauguration, it dropped the previously prominent section on the faith-based office.

A second visible change was related to hiring protections for faith-based activities and organizations. On February 5, President Obama announced that he would no longer extend the same unqualified level of hiring protections observed by the previous administration but instead would extend those traditional religious protections to faith-based organizations only on a “case-by-case” basis. 1

Significantly, hiring protections allow religious organizations to hire those employees who hold the same religious convictions as the organization. As a result, groups such as Catholic Relief Services can hire just Catholics; and the same is true with Protestant, Jewish, and other religious groups. With hiring protections, religious groups cannot be forced to hire those who disagree with their beliefs and values – for example, Evangelical organizations cannot be required to hire homosexuals, pro-life groups don’t have to hire pro-choice advocates, etc.
